Taurine functions in tissues by stabilizing cell membranes and assisting the transportation of potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium within cells. Taurine is also found in the body in the visual pathways, as well as in the brain and nervous system, where it works alongside glycine and GABA/GABA as a neurotransmitter.
